Luai
Al-Shalabi is currently a Professor in the Department of
Computer Science at Arab Open University (AOU) in Kuwait, where he has been
since 2008. From 2000 to 2008 he was a professor at Applied Science University
in Jordan, and he served as Department Chair from 2005 to 2008. From 2008 to 2023
he served as General Course Coordinator for several modules in the AOU. He
received a B.S. from Yarmouk University in 1992, and an M.S. from University Science
Malaysia in 1996. He received his Ph.D. in Data Mining from University Putra
Malaysia in 1994. From 1998 to 2000 he worked at Sedaya University in Malaysia
as a senior lecturer for the Northumbria University Computer Science Program.
His research interests span both data mining and
machine learning. Much of his work has been on improving the understanding,
design, and performance of feature selection algorithms, mainly through the
application of data mining and statistics. He has worked on solving the problem
of missing data in datasets. He has explored the importance of splitting the
dataset into sections based on specific criteria and analyzing each section
separately before merging the results into one complete solution.
Professor Al-Shalabi is the referee for several important journals
such as IEEE Transactions on Knowledge and Data Engineering Journal, IEEE Intelligent
Systems Journal, Science of Publications Journals, Journal of Artificial
Intelligence, and CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua. He is the author of tens of papers on data
mining and machine learning. He is a member of IEEE Xplore, LiveDNA, Institute
of Electronic, Information, and Communication Engineers, Asian Council of
Science Editors, and Clarivate (previously ISI) Web of Science.
